Although I haven't reviewed the other books yet... this one was by far my favorite. I must say that I was a little deterred by the amount of explicit content in the first book, but inflated I kept reading. Filled with shock and surprise this series was great. You never know what's going o happen next it's an I cant believe that happened type of moment. Especially the ending of this last book. This book is hands down one of the best books I've read.Product details

One thing I rarely do is read reviews of books after the first one in a series. I usually let the first book be guide as to whether or not I want to read the books that follow. Be that as it may, I still think each of these books deserves an individual review, even if very few people read it.
The Heart of the King was as great as the rest of the series except for a couple of small details that were just enough to keep me from giving it a full five star rating. I'm not going to gripe about the ending, as I'd imagine a few people may, I actually liked how it ended. There were not really any open doors or things left unanswered, just an honest ending to a story. One thing I didn't care for was how, after the nearly frantic pace of the first two books, this one seemed to be paced much slower. It seemed to take the characters a long time to come together for climactic battle at the end. The other complaint, which was really more of a distraction was how the action staggered between characters points of view, frequently shifting backwards to describe things that just happened from another point of view. It wasn't confusing for me or anything, and I believe I understand why Bruce wrote it this way, which seemed to work somewhat to add an element of dramatic suspense, but I found it distracting, which took a little of the enjoyment of the ending away from me. It wasn't the first time he wrote like that in the series, but I think it was the first time it was jumping between 4 or 5 viewpoints in one scene.
Despite the minor negatives above. The book is still an enjoyable read and the characters were ones that will stick in my memory for years to come, which is really the sign of a really great story for me.
One question for Bruce (because I know you read these reviews) Have you ever heard of Joseph Campbell and the Hero's Journey? Your model for this series follows Campbell's outline for a hero's journey almost perfectly. If so, I think that was part of what made the story so enjoyable, and if not, kudos to you for feeling that out straight from the heart, you're a natural. I hate to give a 5 star rating on anything! There always seems to be SOMETHING that could have been done better I did enjoy the book alot. It was a page turner!
This series was fantastic, original, and entertaining. I loved it and highly recommend it to any epic fantasy lovers. Blake is fantastic.
Over all, I went through the entire series. It was a good book. I didn't give it a five because I felt that it could have flushed out the finer points a little better, and sometimes felt a little disjointed... I will however definitely be reading other books by Bruce.
One of the best fantasy series I have ever read. I rarely give 5 stars but this one earned it!
The world of Khirro grabs you and pulls you down into the pages right there beside him. What a wonderful, emotional and exhilarating journy!!!
